Historia Naturae

I recently came accross Czech animator Jan Svankmayer's "Historia Naturae" (1967) and it totally blew me away. I was familiar with some of his work from the eighties but Historia Naturae is simply unreal. The fact that this was made in 1967 using film is an astonishing feat alone. The piece is basically a very technically cut music video. Also of worthy mention is Czech composer Zdeněk Liška who creates a simply mesmerising aural experience.

I've always been interested in music being represented visually, stop motion and like fast cuts. The video brought to mind some memorable music videos from the past which followed it. Namely Autechre's "Gantz Graf" and Soundgarden's "Jesus Christ Pose"
